DCT 2009-2010 Season

Denton Community Theatre and the Fabulous 40 are proud to present their 40th Consecutive Season of Entertainment!

The season includes:

Plaza Suite by Neil Simon September 11 through September 20
Peek into the lives of the three separate couples occupying Suite 719 at New York City's Plaza Hotel on three separate occasions.
In 1969, a less than blissfully married couple spend an anniversary in the suite where they honeymooned.
In 1989, former high school friends meet to catch up, have a drink and something more?
In 2009, a middle aged couple frantically attempt to coax their nervous daughter out of th bathroom.  It is her wedding day
and the guests are all waiting downstairs.
Each scene is more comical than the last, with the audience wiping tears of laughter by the end.

Forever Plaid by Stuart Ross November 13 through November 22
1950's style clean-cut quartet, "The Plaids", had their chance at stardom cut short when they perished in a crash.
Fortunately, they are back from the afterlife with one last chance for musical greatness.
This critically acclaimed musical is filled with great tunes like, "Three coins in the Fountain", "Sixteen Tons", "Chain Gang",
"Heart and Soul", "Love is a Many-Spendored Thing", and many other hummable favorites!

Cyrano deBergerac by Edmond Rostand February 5 through February 14
This classic peice, set in the 1600's tells the tale of the brilliant soldierand poet who, despite his intelligence, talent and skill,
believes that he can never be loved because of his exceptionally large nose.  He uses his talent with words to help the handsome, but
tongue-tied fellow soldier, Chrisitan, woo the beautiful Roxanne.  Although Cyrano secretly loves her, he wishes only for her happiness.
Filled with true love, dramatic sword fights, this play is also responsible for the wrd "panache" being introduced to the English language.
Cinderella Music by Richard Rodgers, Lyrics/Book by Oscar Hammerstein II April 9 through April 25
The beloved fairy tale told with music and song.  Abused by her step-mother and dreadful step-sisters, the sweet Cinderella
is visited by a fairy god-mother who magically provides her with the gown and gilded coach to attend the royal ball.  While there, the
prince falls madly in love with her, but the since the magic wears off at midnight, Cinderella flees without telling the prince who she really is.
Only a single glass slipper is left behind for the prince to use to find his true love.  He searches the kingdom and when he finds the foot
that fits - happily ever after.

Night of the Iguana by Tennessee Williams June 11 through June 20
Former minister, T. Lawrence shannon, works as a tour guide for a second rate tour company.  He is on the verge of his second nervous breakdown
when he brings his tour group of young women and their chaperone to a cheap hotel run by a lively, but crass widow of an old friend.
The group has turned against him due to his indescretion with one of the under-aged members.  Also staying at the establishment is
a strangely proper spinster, Hannah Jelkes, who screapes by selling portraits, and her ancient grandfather who is struggling to
compose his life's last poem.  The human bond between Miss Jelkes and Rev. Shannon provide the focus for this powerful piece.

The Producers Music by Mel Brooks/Glen Kelly, Lyrics by Mel Brooks, Book by Mel Brooks/Thomas Meehan   Aug. 6 through August 22
Two New York producers scheme to make a fortune by producing a Broadway flop.  The plan can only work if the show is a total failure.
When the sure fire miss turns out to be a huge success, they really are in trouble. This musical comedy will have holding your sides
from lauging and humming the score long after the curtain comes down.
Also this Season - check our Calendar for special events - Tuna Christmas , Beaujolais and More, and Encore III.
&
DCTTS will be announcing Children's Productions throughout the year.
